Give Your Life to Jesus

You didn’t come this far to stop

There is a moment in every life when Jesus stops being only someone we have heard about and becomes someone we must respond to. Not someday. Not when life settles down. Not when we finally understand everything. Not when we feel worthy enough, clean enough, spiritual enough, or ready enough. Now.

Because none of us come to Jesus ready. We come needy. We come honest. We come tired of carrying what we were never created to carry. We come with our sin, our questions, our grief, our shame, our striving, our fear, and our longing for something this world cannot give us. And Jesus does not turn away the person who comes to Him. He said, “Whoever comes to Me I will never cast out” (John 6:37). The Gospel is the good news that God did not wait for us to climb our way back to Him. He came down for us. He came into the brokenness. He came into the darkness. He came into the distance sin created between a holy God and the people He loved.

The Bible says, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Sin is not only the obvious things we do wrong. It is the condition of a heart separated from God. It is our desire to be our own lord, our own savior, our own source of truth, comfort, control, and rescue. We were created to belong to God, but sin pulled us away from the One we were made for. And because God is holy, sin cannot simply be ignored. “The wages of sin is death,” Scripture says, “but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

Because God is love, He made a way. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came fully God and fully man. He lived the perfect life we could not live. He never sinned, yet He willingly went to the cross and took the weight of our sin upon Himself. “God shows His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). Three days later, Jesus rose from the grave, defeating sin, shame, death, and hell forever. This is why Jesus is not simply a teacher, a moral example, or a comforting thought for hard days. Jesus is Savior. He is Lord. He is the only way back to the Father.

Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6). In a world that wants to believe every road leads to God, those words can sound narrow. But they are actually mercy. Jesus did not leave us guessing. He did not leave us striving. He did not leave us trying to build our own bridge back to heaven. He became the bridge.

Romans 10:9 says, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” That is the invitation of salvation: to believe Jesus is who He says He is, to believe He died for your sins and rose again, to confess Him as Lord, to turn from sin, and to surrender your life to Him. Not as a perfect person finally getting it right, but as a son or daughter coming home. Giving your life to Jesus means you stop trying to save yourself. It means you lay down the illusion that you can carry the weight of your own sin, your own shame, your own healing, your own purpose, and your own eternity. It means you say, “Jesus, I need You. I believe You. I trust You. I surrender my life to You.”

It does not mean every hard thing disappears overnight. It does not mean grief becomes easy, questions vanish, temptation stops, or life suddenly becomes painless. It means you no longer walk through any of it alone. It means the Holy Spirit comes to live within you. It means your past can be forgiven, your heart can be made new, and your eternity can be secure in Christ. “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away. Behold, the new has come” (2 Corinthians 5:17). That is what Jesus offers. Not behavior modification. Not religious performance. Not a polished-up version of the old life. New life.

Trenton loved Jesus deeply, and Found by the Shepherd was created in his memory. But this project was never meant to stop with Trent. He would want every lamb, every story, every page, and every moment of curiosity to point beyond him to the Savior he loved. Trent would want you to know that heaven is real, eternity is real, and Jesus is real. More than anything, he would want his life to point you to the Savior he loved. The most important decision you will ever make is whether you will say yes to Jesus, and Trent would love for that yes to lead to the day he gets to meet you in heaven.

So if you feel Him drawing your heart, do not ignore it. Jesus said, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me” (John 10:27). You do not need perfect words. You do not need to understand everything. You do not need to wait until your life is less messy. You can come to Jesus honestly, right now, exactly where you are.

If you are ready to give your life to Jesus, you can pray something like this:

Jesus, I need You. I believe You are the Son of God. I believe You died on the cross for my sins, and I believe You rose from the grave so I could be forgiven, restored, and brought back to the Father. I confess that I have sinned and that I cannot save myself. I am tired of running, striving, hiding, and carrying what only You can carry. Today, I surrender my life to You. I turn from my sin and from living life my own way, and I choose to follow You. Forgive me of my sins. Wash me clean. Make me new. Be my Savior, my Lord, my Shepherd, and my King. I give You my heart. I give You my past. I give You my future. I give You my questions, my pain, my shame, my dreams, my relationships, and my story. Teach me to follow You. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Help me know Your voice and walk with You for the rest of my life. Thank You for loving me. Thank You for coming after me. Thank You for making a way for me to come home. I say yes to You, Jesus. Amen.

If you prayed that from your heart, heaven is rejoicing. Jesus said, “There is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner repenting” (Luke 15:10). Your yes matters. Your life matters. Your eternity matters. This is not the end of the journey. It is the beginning.

Tell someone who loves Jesus. Begin reading the Gospel of John. Pray honestly. Ask God to help you know Him, follow Him, and become more like Him. And if you are not already connected to one, get plugged into a local Gospel-believing, Jesus-centered church and find community that can help you grow in the Lord. Salvation is a gift, but following Jesus is a daily surrender.

And if you are not ready yet, keep seeking. God is not afraid of your questions. Open the book of John and begin reading. Pray the most honest prayer you can pray, even if all you can say is, “Jesus, if You are real, show me.” He is patient. He is merciful. He is near. Scripture says He is “not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). You are not too far gone. You are not beyond forgiveness. You are not outside the reach of His mercy. Jesus came to seek and save the lost, restore the broken, forgive the sinner, and bring His children home. You can come home.
